This is writing that I've done over the years for
classes. It's not all the best, but I'm putting it on because hopefully it
shows progress from the early classes to the later. People in class sort of
labled me as the dark, weird writer. In a few of these stories, I really
catered to that idea, I think mostly because I liked having my own style.
(That's a way for me to excuse myself for the really strange stuff you might
read in this) Okay, that's all I have to say. If you read anything, tell me
what you thought via facebook or e-mail or something. I'd really like to
know, and be honest.

Salt and Train Tracks
(fiction) Fall 2006 - This was the last story I did in college. I just
re-read it and... I don't know. It's the only story I wrote in college that
doesn't have a supernatural element to it. I did it as mainly a challenge to
myself to see if I could do it. It's different than my other stuff, but
there are a few really good moments in it. I got the biggest re-action from
readers after they read this than any other story, though. I guess that's
something.
the Tunnel
(poetry) Fall 2007 - What is this about? I think it's pretty
obvious. I'm not sure why, but I like this poem. It's short and simple. It's
pessimistic. There's meaning on the surface and then deeper meaning you
probably won't get. Tell me if you like it. (I don't really care if you
don't. haha...)
The Troll
(fiction) Fall 2006 - I didn't like this as much when I was writing it. I
had a lot of problems with it because it's... odd. It's about a troll that
eats little kids from underneath their beds. I tried to make it interesting,
though. I just re-read it and I kind of like it. I kind of want to read it
to my seven-year old nephew, just to see what his reaction would be.
the Circle now Spirals
(fiction) Spring 2006 - This is probably my favorite short story I wrote in
college. I wrote it with literature in mind, not just entertainment, like I
do in the other ones. There is so much symbolism and deeper meaning crammed
into this little thing. I thought it was all obvious, but after talking to
some people, it's not obvious at all. It's actually kind of boring. I
wouldn't suggest reading it. If you do, tell me what you think.
The
Vile Orchid
(fiction) Spring 2006 - I read H. G. Wells' "The Strange Orchid" awhile
back. He's sort of my idol. I think he had amazing ideas, but was more of a
storyteller, not a writer. "the Strange Orchid" is about a man who is
longing for adventure and gets excited when he buys an undiscovered Orchid
somewhere. The story, of course, takes a "Little Shop of Horrors" twist,
only it's a very light and carefree. This is my own version of the story.
With
Ivory Wings
(fiction) Fall 2005 - This is the weirdest story I ever wrote in college.
I'm posting it online a year and a half later because I was sort of ashamed.
I just re-read it, though. I actually think it's pretty cool. The writing is
great, at least I think so. I wrote it in response the Romantic poem, "Christabel,"
by Coleridge. It's an awesome poem that he never finished. It's got a lot of
the same lesbian, Christian, and possession themes. If you read this, read
it with an objective mind, and don't judge.
Filling the Void
(fiction) Spring 2005 - This was my first critiqued
fiction writing (post-elementary school). It's not too long. I think the
assignment was supposed to be 5-7 pages long. I was sort of holding back on
the weirdness, because I wasn't sure how people would respond to the sci-fi
feel that I like to write in. This is probably the most "tamed" thing I'm
ever going to write. If you want to read a quick, pleasant story, this one
would be good.
Flawless
Song
(poetry) Spring 2005 - Alright, I don't write poetry very often... er...
ever. We had to write a little bit of everything in the first creative
writing class. I really can't do free-verse poetry. It's just so odd to me.
Spending the time to find the right meter and rhythm with the syllables
makes poetry tolerable to me. Try to figure out this poem first, then scroll
to page two to read what it means.
This
White Mask
(poetry) Fall 2006 - So remember before when I said I don't ever write
poetry? I lied. So, I wrote a poem in my leisure time. Yeah, I know, that's
pretty weird. It totally came out of nowhere, too. I just needed to vent, so
I sat down and wrote a poem. I've never done that before. One time I wrote
lyrics to a song to vent, which is sort of like a poem, but it's not the
same. Lyrics are cool, a poem is... I don't know. I enjoyed writing this,
and I really like what came out of it. Read it, although it will probably
mean nothing to you. Maybe someday I'll write an explanation.
